Foundations of UZIT with Rodney and Colleen Saidman Yee at Yoga Journal LIVE Colorado
Limited Capacity filling up
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Training with Rodney and Colleen Saidman Yee at Yoga Journal LIVE Colorado.
Urban Zen Integrative Therapy (UZIT), created by Colleen Saidman Yee and Rodney Yee is a holistic care method that relies on the synergistic effects of in-bed movements, restorative yoga poses, breath-awareness exercises, meditation, essential oils, Reiki (energy balancing), nutrition, and contemplative care. UZIT-trained therapists work in a wide range of settings, from hospitals to rehab centers to senior-care and hospice facilities across the United States, helping patients and health care workers. The practice is also useful for any one interested in taking care of family and friends. UZIT has been shown to ease insomnia, pain, anxiety, nausea, insomnia, and constipation (referred to as PANIC)—things that are amplified during illness or a hospital stay but that we experience in daily life too.
Begins 1pm Wednesday. 9am-5pm Thursday and Friday.

In this three-day workshop you will learn basic UZIT strategies for relieving and reducing burnout. The skills you learn in Estes Park will  prepare you for the full UZIT training, which includes an additional 12 in-person training days, over the course of four months.

Each training day at Estes Park begins with a yoga class that includes active and restorative poses, breath work, and meditation. This practice is followed by lectures, discussions, and practices related to UZIT modalities, including.:

Yoga therapy: In-chair and in-bed mindful movements, restorative yoga, breath awareness, and guided body awareness meditation

  • Reiki: Level 1 training for self-practice (full Reiki Level 1, for patient care, is offered on Saturday [TE: include page number and/or link])

  • Essential oil therapy: Protocol for using three therapeutic-grade essential oils—lavender, lemon, and peppermint—and information on using other single oils and blends

  • Nutrition: Nutritional information as a form of self-care for UZITs.

  • Contemplative Care: Training and practice in the ability to stay present, calm, and effective in the midst of suffering

You’ll learn how to layer these modalities to address the symptoms of PANIC in yourself so that you can be more grounded, relaxed, and restored, and be present as your serve others. As Roshi Joan Halifax, a Buddhist teacher and pioneer in the field of end-of-life care, says, “Healthcare without self-care is sick care.”

 Course hours are below:

•  Wednesday - 1pm-5pm.

Registration will take place

from 12:30-1 outside of the

room.

•  Thursday - 9-5pm Please be in

the room at 8:45. Your props

and oils are all you’ll need to

begin. Please have your

course workbook and pen

available.

•  Friday - 9-5pm Again, class will

begin with a practice, so you

will only need your props and

oils.

The Alchemy of Silence: A One-Day Silent Retreat
Limited Capacity seats available

A silent yoga immersion is a potent means to deepen one's practice. Through the combination of yoga practice and seated meditation, this immersion helps awaken new insights in the mind, body, and heart. Students are invited to hold sacred silence from the beginning of class throughout the day—including during lunch—while Tias provides guidance and direction. Removed from the demands of our daily rhythms and responsibilities, you’ll spend the day without screens or smart phones. We will remain in silence in order to allow a deepening of our relationships: to ourselves, to nature, and to simple tasks such as walking, breathing, and eating. Intro to Hoop Dance By Hoopologie
Open to the public.
The hoop is a tool. It strengthens and opens the body, but it also teaches us where we hold fear and resistance. And our hoops teach us to breathe, and approach these places with compassion and patience and a desire to understand. Your dance with the hoop is an external manifestation of a process that's happening inside. It's the way you use the hoop to awaken your body, your heart, and mind. This class teaches the foundations of movement and dance with a hoop. Hoops will be provided.

Yoga and Social Media
Limited Capacity seats available

No one can deny that social media has become a major part of our lives, nor question it’s benefits. Up until now the yoga world has not been able to escape this captivating sphere of imagery, validation seeking, haters, comparison, filters, and modified images. When everything you do is either approved or disproved by the amount of likes you get, it’s natural to just keep doing what gets the most attention, but is that yoga? Is that true to you? This workshop aims to bring these topics into the light through discussion and contemplation while helping you have a more productive, empowering, and favorable relationship to social media. If you practice or teach yoga, and use social media, make the time to be here! Discussion. No asana.
Mostly lecture and discussion. Open to teachers and dedicated students of yoga.

Injury Prevention and Recovery
Limited Capacity seats available

Getting injured is an inevitable part of life and if we're wise, we can learn some of the most valuable lessons from our injuries. As a yoga practitioner our aim is to injure ourselves and others as little as possible in everything we do including asana. To do this we must learn and teach the difference between beneficial discomfort and injurious pain. The injurious pain signal is one that requires an immediate change in approach and is a call to attention that something is about to go very wrong, but even when we're incredibly diligent sometimes we still make errors in judgment and get injured. When an injury occurs the road back to health can be a scary and frustrating one but it doesn't have to be. In this workshop, we'll explore how to prevent injuries from happening by understanding the range of motion joints have and how to ask our students not to move past the limits of their physical structure. We'll then further this and look at how to approach healing once an injury has occurred both physically and most importantly how to handle the mind's thoughts about injury and the recovery process.

Body Maps: The Road to Healthy Aging, Pain Modulation, and Emotional Balance
Limited Capacity seats available

Our brain contains its own body map—a mental representation of our body and its functions. Far from being a neural entity, our body map is vital to the way in which we age, as well as to our pain modulation and emotional regulation. First, we'll explore the science behind body maps as it touches on these key areas of wellness. We'll then experience a body map-enriching, vinyasa-inspired, movement-infused yoga practice; a connective-tissue hydrating minipractice; and a brief, therapeutic, and restorative Savasana.

Victory Dance Thru Movement and Music with Bibi McGill
Early civilizations danced as a method of healing and creative expression, but over time we have been conditioned to shut down or detach from our feelings. Our modern day culture persuades us to dance in a way that is “cool” or “hip,” rather than free and uninhibited. Come experience a victory dance—movement that radiates liberation, rather than selfconsciousness. Similar to the flow of a yoga class, we will gradually rise into an ecstatic state before gently winding down to savasana’s state of rest and rejuvenation. Breath and movement will flow in a web of ambient, hypnotic, world, mantra, electronic, glitch hop, dance beats that facilitate the exploration of higher levels of consciousness.

The Burnout Prevention Plan: Boundaries and the Body
Limited Capacity seats available

Whether we are parents, teachers, healers, caregivers, or over-achievers, we often feel a pressure to “do it all” that over time, can lead to chronic stress and burnout. Blogs, articles, books, and popular opinion devoted to boundaries make them sound simple: if you feel depleted, just say no. And yet, boundaries are a strong and interwoven system that have deep roots in our physical and emotional bodies. In this workshop, we’ll explore the three layers of our boundary system. We’ll learn how to work at each layer to replenish our boundary system from the inside out. We’ll translate this work into postural sequences and short practices that, practiced over time, can help us find our center, solidify boundaries, regulate an over-taxed nervous system, and promote better health, emotional balance, creative fulfillment, and even a more evolved sense of compassion.

Unleash Your Life Force through the Nadis
Limited Capacity seats available

In traditional yoga practice, directing the life force (prana) through the body was compared to the way farmers dammed, collected, and irrigated water for their fields. Thus, prana is thought to move like rivulets, streams, and tributaries (called nadis) through the tissues of the body. Through yoga postures and somatic movements, we’ll open these channels, some of which are feather fine, so that they pulse with life. By alternately extending and contracting the body's connective tissues, we help pump fluids through the circulatory system and irrigate blood and lymph into all the cells of the body. You’ll learn to sense and feel the movement of the life force throughout the subtle body.

The Power of Touch: Master Hands-On Assists
Limited Capacity seats available

Hands-on assists can be a potent tool for teachers to communicate alignments and refinements in their students’ asana practice. One of the quickest ways for students to understand and embody the mechanics, depth, and beauty of an asana is through touch, which will also enriches their experience of your teachings. We will dive into the more common asanas assists with partners. We will focus on how to observe form, breath, alignment, energetics of asana, and ultimately how to assist. As the assister, we will explore the imperative of preserving our bodies through leveraging bandhas, breath, and our connection to the earth while providing the practitioner with safe assists that support and deepen their experience and understanding of asana.

For teachers and serious students who want to deepen their knowledge of asana assists.
Fundamental knowledge of asana alignment and anatomy is not required but very helpful.

On the Leadership team at CorePower Yoga since 2012, she is praised for her ability to inspire her students through an intelligent sequencing, intentional theme, powerful playlist, and her ability to remind us that we are all truly in this together. You can find her holding down the fort at our first CorePower Yoga as General Manager of Grant St, or motivating the CPY community in the class.

Yoga for Inner Peace
Limited Capacity seats available

What happens when women get together? Something immeasurably powerful and transformative can come from the support of other women. We set down our barriers and dwell in our commonalities, compassion, and understanding. Even though this is only a half of day, the goal is to leave you feeling like you have just been on a weeklong women’s retreat. In her 20 years of teaching women’s retreats, Saidman Yee has come to understand that a lot of times we are struggling with similar issues and thinking that we are alone. Emotional needs of a woman are different from those of a man. We will target common areas where tension, trauma, and secrets can be buried with the intension of unleashing joy. We will use asana, pranayama, meditation, journaling and dialogue to dig into areas that keep us stuck. Why and where are we stuck? What are we afraid of? Are we living our potential? Are we using our voices to speak our truth? Do we understand our importance and validity? We will experiment with practices that address issues such as forgiveness and confidence. We will explore different tools that unlock bindings in the body, breath, and brain that keep you from realizing that you are enough.

Drawing upon the traditions of yoga, mindfulness, and contemplative studies, we'll experience several practical, body-based methods of working with self-compassion that can be integrated into any yoga class or somatic meditation practice.
